jane from scotland asks: how do i stop rabbits from eating plants and flowers ? which plants and flowers dont they eat ?

Help jane with an answer

Green Zeus says : It is said that taste repellents work better than scent repellents for rabbits. But rabbits hate both the scent and taste of blood. You can use dried blood, found at garden stores. You can use it dry or wet. Spray or sprinkle it on and around plant. Also they say to try black pepper or hot pepper--sprinkle in and around plants.

Patti from asks: How do I get rid of Slugs and Snalls in my yard, I live in S.CA

Help Patti with an answer

Green Zeus says : There is a product called Slug-Geta. It works VERY well. Also, save your eggshells. Crush them up and spread around plants. This cuts the soft body of the snail. You can also use diotamacious earth and it does the same thing as the eggshells but it`s a bit pricey. Can also set out a shallow pan of beer--they drown in it. You might want to use a couple of these techniques together to kill the most slugs.

Ellie from USA asks: How does one prune boisenberries? I have a two rows of about eight feet long each and they are outgrowing their wire trellis. Should I add trellis or keep them in check? I have about four plants. I know nothing about their upkeep and they are only about two years old and bearing only a few berries this year. Thanks

Help Ellie with an answer

Green Zeus says : Let me first say that I have never pruned a boisenberry. But being a wine maker, I DO know how to prune grape vines. I imagine this is the same thing. More vine means smaller and fewer berries. I would heavily prune that thing back. When pruning grapes, you prune it until you have 2 fat branches coming off the trunk and no more than 5 vines off of them. From there, you prune the viney growth back to 5 buds. After fruit has set, in the summer, I keep going back and prune off all new vine growth because this is stealing energy from the grapes. Keep those new growths off the plants after fruit set. I would also fertilize to keep them healthy. Triple 19 is fine. Fertilize in spring after all threat of killing frost is gone. Boisenberry makes a very good wine. Good luck--hope this helps you.

Nancy says : Bachelor Buttons, nickname Blue Cornflower, is a true blue flower. It is considered an annual; however, if left to seed, it will return next year. It can spread invasively. You may also remove the deadheads and dry the seeds over the winter and spread after danger of frost. Continually deadheading the plant will keep flowers blooming.

I set them in water then into soil once I figured what end was UP. They grow about 1-2" a day with hand sized heart shaped leaves on this vine. Do I expect flowers? Thax so much.

Help Dee with an answer

Yourgarden specialist Marian says : Kudzu is a vine that when you don't controlle it, it will eventually grow over almost any fixed object including other vegetation. Over a period of several years it will kill trees and bushes by blocking the sunlight. Flowers from kudzu bloom in late summer and have a very pleasant fragrance. The shapes and forms created by kudzu vines growing over trees and bushes can be nice to the eye. Kudzu is native to Japan and China, however it grows well in the Southeastern United States.
