kim stowell from united states asks: I live in east texas and have recently got a banana tree. It is in a large pot and we put it by our pool. The leaves are bending in the middle and turning brown. There is new growth, but, I don`t know why the leaves are dying. When I water I water at the base of the plant. Should I be spraying the leaves with water? Do I remove the brown leaves? If so how? The are firmly attached to the trunk. What do you advise?

Karen Stieb from USA asks: What is the best thing to do with our banana trees during the winter? Last year we trimmed ours, but I`ve seen some people leave them alone. Our winters can get in the 20`s. We were told, "trim them and they spread out more, leave them alone, they grow taller". We leave in central Calif.

Help Karen Stieb with an answer

Yourgarden Specialist Marian says : Most banana trees canīt stand the cold in the winter. I donīt know what kind of specie you have. There are indeed a lot of people that trim the leaves off you can do that also. If itīs to cold you have to trim the leaves and bring it inside.
