Green Zeus says : I also forgot to mention that serviceberry likes acid soil. I never remember that because the soil here IS so acid, so all my plant choices are geared for this soil type.

Green Zeus says : This is an easy shrub to plant and care for. It likes full sun, water it during dry spells for the first 2 years. Fertilize it in its second year and maybe every year after that depending on soil. I have poor quality soil here so I fertilize it every year. Leaves may brown and fall off in late summer---I have the Saskatcewan variety and it drops its leaves early every year. This is a great shrub to grow because the Cedar Waxwings descend on it and stay until they`ve eaten every berry. It is very seldom you see this bird, unless you have a fruit tree that they love. The berries are very tasty and you can make wine or jam from them---if you can keep the birds out!!! Good luck.
