| Green Zeus says : | Actually, you should not prune a butterfly bush until the new growth has appeared. This bush grows and flowers from the old wood. If you cut this off in late winter---it`s goodby. After new growth appears, you can cut the dead wood out of it. |
| Yourgarden Specialist Marian says : | The normal time to cut back a butterfly bush is late winter. This is done to control the height of the plant and make a pleasing shape for the development of flowering wood. Propagate by cuttings. In mid-summer take 4- to 6-inch cuttings, stripping off the lower set of leaves. Dab on a little rooting powder and plant them in moist soil. |
