Lorinda Veltkamp from USA asks: I was given this camelia in Mar. "07 and it was blooming at the time. Now it is August and the leaves are turning brown. It was planted so it receives only morning sun and is shaded by trees in the afternoon. I feel I have adequately watered it. Any suggestions?

Help Lorinda Veltkamp with an answer

shadygardener says : It`s been awhile since your post, so you might have answers already. Here`s my suggestions in case you need them. Leaf browning on camellias can be normal, if not all leaves are brown, and if new growth continues to develop. Check the back of the leaves for any sign of insect infestation. Brown leaves sometimes just indicate excessive heat. Sometimes tip die-out will occur in drought, but you say it`s watered well enough. Too much water usually shows as yellowing first, then browning. Let me know if you need more information.

Ilana from USA asks: My Camelia is flowering beautifully for the first time (it`s still very small - 3 yrs old) but I keep finding the beautiful, perfect blooms on the ground. I`m not sure if some squirrels perhaps are the culprits, or if they are simply falling off on their own. I only have 10 or so more flowers to go for the season, and I don`t want to lose them . . . what do I do?

Charlene Dubberly from USA asks: I live in N. Florida, a bit south of Jacksonville. My Camelia tree is about 17 years old. This year it began dying off...one cluster of a branch at a time. It is always the end of the limbs that die and there may be 3 or 4 die at a time. There are no bugs or spots on the leaves. At this time it is blooming really great as it always does. It is planted in the full sun and is in the yard with no wind protection, like near the house. I never had any problem I couldn`t correct yet but this has me stumped. I do not want to lose this tree. Any help???? Thanks, Charlene

Charlene Dubberly from USA asks: I have a Camilla that is 19 years old. It has thrived and enchanted us with profuse bloom every year. Now it is dying back, one small limb at a time. There are no signs of bug infestation or anything on the leaves. A small amount of limb will die, my husband will prune it and another small limb or two will die back. The process repeats itself. The only thing that happened was the heavy wind and rain we all in Fl suffered three years ago in the 3 hurricaines that passed thru. We did not suffer winds higher than 40-50mph. I am at a loss as to what to do for this tree. I hate to lose it, a 19 year ol plant is like family! Thank you for any suggestions.
