Nancy Begle from USA asks: the bark is coming off at the bottom of the tree. I think someone has hit it with a trimmer but it is now about 6 to 8 inches top to bottom exposed with bark coming off. What do I need to do to protect the tree from disease?

Brian McFadden from USA asks: I have two of these pear trees in my yard that are dying. One is completely dead (leaves are brown) and another is dying (leaves are yellow/red and becoming brittle). Both of these trees have been planted for over three years. I have three other Cleveland Pears in my yard and they are doing fine. I water all of them on a regular basis. What could be causing these two trees to die?

McRae from usa asks: There is excessive growth of new sprouts on the trunk of our cleveland pear trees. This is the end of May and I would like to know the best time to cut these. Growth from last summer was cut at the end of February or beginning of March along with the rest of the shrubs. This is the third year for these trees and they are very healthy and full. I have ask my neighbors and family and the answer is "I`m not sure." Thanks

daisy says : my very wise grandfather always put mud in the wound of the tree. He wrapped it then with burlap. having the mud very wet when he applied it to the tree. secure the burlap with string. keep the string as loose as possible. hope this helps!!!
   
Green Zeus says : Actually, you should leave it alone. Applying anything seals it up and allows bacteria to get a good start. Leaving it alone allows the tree to heal itself. I have several deer damaged trees that I thought wouldn`t make it. That was several years ago and the trees are doing fine and growing.
