Duranta
Mary Stephenson from USA asks: I have a duranta planted in the ground in an enclosed, screened patio. It was so heavy with leaves that I had to trim it earlier in the summer. Now the leaves are falling constantly and it`s almost bare!! We have had more than our share of rain (San Antonio, TX), and I`m wondering if this has anything to do with the shedding. If not, what could the problem be? Thanks for your advice.

Yourgarden Specialist Marian says : Did you mean: Duranta repens `Goldii`. Care: requires a minimum of 4 hrs. of direct sunlight. If the plant is not given the required amount of sunlight, the leaves can revert back to green colour. The soil moist, but well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Give standard liquid fertilizer every two months. Water plentifully during the growing season, but do not allow the plant to stand in water. Prune to encourage branching. Pruning can also be done to keep the plant in keep the plant in shape.
