I pruned my forsythia in the spring after it flowered as usual but when I came back from two months in the US (end of July) it had grown so much that I severely pruned it right before a hot spell. I know it was the wrong time, but I have a tiny yard and there`s not enough room for it to grow too big. Now it is dying. Should I cut it to the ground and hope it comes back or just dig out the roots and start over? It really looks dead. I`ve never killed one before. By the way, we had an unusual amount of rain for a couple of weeks after I pruned it, too, but it didn`t die until after a week of hot weather.
